Idiots, YouTube, Viacom, and the Stupidity of Media
Rant: Viacom now DEMANDING that YouTube/Google remove over 100,000 clips of Viacom content, MTV clips/South Park/Daily Show etc. I have, despite this being only my 20th some odd blog post, talked about YouTube content many times.
Stupid, stupid, stupid media. WE ARE NOT GOING TO YOU TUBE INSTEAD OF WATCHING YOUR STATION. I'd be willing to bet your viewer ship hasn't changed much at all in the last 6 months. In my case...its gone up. I ONLY WATCH COMEDY CENTRAL BECAUSE OF YOU TUBE. My eyeballs during South Park, Colbert Report, and Demetri Martin's special are DIRECTLY related to me finding their content on YouTube first.
Media's in major trouble. Fair market value of a 30 second clip of Cartman making a fart joke? Google seems to be willing to meet halfway, while Viacom and others certainly are not.
Mike Arrington makes a good comparison to the fall of Napster on TechCrunch. If YouTube looses all their illegal content they're going to be in trouble. Viacom is also in trouble...as I said yesterday we aren't watching TV like we used to, so they better get online...and fast.
