I've written a fair amount about YouTube, particularly the beginning of its demise. A new trend, while changing the landscape of what YouTube is, may be the key to its survival. Companies are offering contests to YouTube users to create videos for money. The Citizen Marketers folks, wrote about how TurboTax, along with Vanilla Ice (wow...he's still around), are offering $25,000 to the best rap about TurboTax software submitted to YouTube.
Very cool. Granted, I doubt anybody rapping about TurboTax would actually use the software, but its a GREAT idea. Companies trying to reach us NEED to infiltrate our online niches, and this is a great way to get some consumer-generated publicity for only $25,000. I don't know how many You Tube users even pay their own taxes, but I bet they're googling TurboTax like crazy in an effort to get that cash.
